Summer of Touch Rugby

Ryecroft Glenton once again took part in Newcastle Falcons’ Community Foundation Summer of Touch competition earlier this summer.

20 teams took part in this year’s competition which took place on the new 4G synthetic pitch at the Kingston Park ground on Wednesday evenings over 8 weeks from 1 June to 20 July 2016. Teams were made up of 5 players, including at least 1 of the opposite sex. Games were 8 minutes each way, with a paltry 2 minutes at half time to try and recover, with 3-4 games played each week. The teams played each other once before finals night when the teams took part in a play-off competition for the Cup, Bowl, Plate and Shield depending on their position in the final league table.

Teams represented a number of other professional firms along with an increasing number of teams from local rugby clubs which made things slightly more challenging for those not wholly familiar with the oval ball.

Ryecoft Glenton finished a creditable 12th out of the 20 teams but sadly were unable to retain the Plate won at last year’s finals night, losing to the eventual winners of that competition.

Many thanks to all who took part.
