What is your role within RG?
I am a manager within the Audit and Assurance service line, but I also work with a number of clients that are below the audit threshold assisting with various aspects of their accounting, tax compliance and VAT work.
Tell me about your career to date
I graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Accounting and Finance and joined Clive Owen & Co LLP as a graduate trainee where I gained my ACA qualification. I then moved to Ryecroft Glenton in 2012 and will soon be celebrating my 10 year anniversary!
What does your current role involve?
I work closely with a portfolio of clients, the majority of whom are corporate entities and owner managed businesses, in the delivery of our technical services. This includes audit, accountancy and tax.
As an audit manager my role varies from managing some audits and reviewing the work done by the team to performing audit work on some of our larger audits. I’m becoming increasingly involved in RG’s infrastructure and renewables specialist team which is proving to be really interesting.
What makes RG different?
Our clients always come first and are at the centre of everything we do. We aim to build long term, trusted relationships with multiple points of contact across all relevant service lines which means that someone is always available to assist. I have a large number of clients who I’ve been working with since I joined RG almost 10 years ago.
We also have a wide range of specialisms across the firm, ensuring that we can offer an expert level of service in all areas. We are genuinely interested in our clients, and we have the technical knowledge and experience across all of our service lines to provide clear and tailored solutions.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time running around after my two young boys. I try to go to classes at our local gym at least twice a week for some time to myself and can often be spotted pushing a pushchair around our local streets to make sure I do 10,000 steps a day (easier said than done)! I also love food and will happily eat out at any opportunity.
Tell us about your day so far?
Unfortunately, every day starts extremely early since having children. This morning I dropped the boys off at nursey at 7.30am and arrived at the office to start work at 8am.
I usually start my day by checking my emails and updating my to do list. I then check in with any colleagues who are doing work for me to check that they don’t have any problems.
I’m currently working on a group audit with a tight deadline so most of my day was spent ensuring that the audit files were all ready for review and clearing up any final queries with the client.
This was interspersed with a few Teams calls with colleagues in the audit team discussing issues on ongoing jobs as well as responding to a few emails from clients.
My day always ends in a mad rush to make sure that I’m not late for nursery pick up!
My 3 most notable achievements to date would be….
Graduating from Newcastle University with a degree in Accounting & Finance. My twin sister and I were the first in our family to go to university.
Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.
Maintaining a happy and healthy family life as well as a career which is not always easy.
