Daniel Wilkinson, Audit & Assurance Manager, goes under the spotlight!

What is you role within RG?

I am a manager within the Audit and Assurance service line.

Tell me about your career to date..

My professional career began at Rowlands Chartered Accountants, where I joined as a trainee and completed my AAT and ACCA exams. Over the course of my time there I worked within the Accounts service line before establishing myself within the Audit and Assurance team, accumulating extensive skills, experience and knowledge across a wide range of businesses and industries.

Having spent almost a decade there I made the decision to join RG, in fact in a few months I will have been here 4 years which seems to have flown over.

What does your current role involve?

I collaborate closely with clients across different industries and sectors, the majority of which are corporate entities ranging from large multinational companies to owner-managed businesses. My role is to deliver a high-quality technical service, including audit, accountancy, and tax.

As an audit manager my primary focus is oversight of the full audit engagement process, often being direct contact between the RG and the client as well as reporting to the partner/director to ensure the work is managed in line with the agreed timetable.

Also, I play a part in managing and reviewing the work carried out by our trainees within the audit team and spend time providing feedback and guidance to ensure their audit training is suitably tailored and targeted. This is something which I enjoy doing, and I am always looking for ways to improve myself as well as helping others.

What makes RG different?

At RG we are a friendly and close-knit team, this and the extensive knowledge and expertise that we have on hand ensures we have a genuine interest in our clients and their needs. This is an approach I have taken throughout my career, and one of the reasons why I feel so at home within the firm.

Additionally, there is such a variety of work which makes RG stand out as a place where individuals can have the opportunity to diversify and expand their knowledge base across a wide range of business and industries.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work I’m happy to say much of my time is spent with my young family, with two young kids under the age of four I thoroughly look forward to spending time with them after a day’s work. As my free time is therefore at a premium, I don’t get a round of golf in as much as I would like, however although this is a sport I have played for over 20 years I still get that buzz every time I tee it up.

And finally, leave us with one interesting fact about yourself?

This is something that I have thought hard about, and given that not many interesting facts come to mind, the only thing I can remotely consider to be interesting is that I originally wanted to become a helicopter pilot, however my appetite for heights was not as keen on the idea.
