Frankie Clough, Outsourced Advisory Assistant Manager, goes under the spotlight

What’s your story, and how did you find your way into your current role?

I jumped straight into a marine biology degree without a clear idea of what I wanted to do. It didn’t take me long to realise it wasn’t quite the right fit, but I stuck with it. After graduating, I made a complete U-turn into accountancy. It was definitely a leap—from fish to finance, but I haven’t looked back since.

I started out as a trainee in a healthcare department, preparing partnership accounts for GP practices. After building a strong foundation and becoming part-qualified, I made the move away from medical accounts, where I really got to broaden my skill set and engage with a more diverse set of clients.

With my ACA qualification under my belt, I began to consider opportunities with more of an industry focus. This led me to find Ryecroft Glenton’s outsourced FD service line and speak with Dan Cooper about the role I’m in currently.

What do you genuinely enjoy about your work?

I think the thing that keeps me interested day to day is the variety and problem-solving aspect of my job – each client has different set of needs and challenges so there is always something new to be learned.

I’m also really enjoying familiarising myself with the different tech we use, aside from the usual accounting software. Although I’m still very new to the advisory side of my role, working with real-time financial data to support clients in making informed, forward-thinking decisions, is something I’m looking forward to getting to grips with.

What’s something your colleagues might not know about you?

When I was 18, I spent 10 days volunteering in Ensenada, Mexico, for a charity called M10 Missions. I’m proud to say I helped build a home for a family in need and served some of the most vulnerable communities. It was such a rewarding and eye-opening experience – something that will stay with me for life.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

If the weather’s good, my husband Rob and I enjoy a hike in the Lake District with our cocker spaniel, Luna. We always treat ourselves to a well-earned pub dinner on the way home.

I’d choose a cosy night in over a night out any day—give me a blanket, a good book or Netflix series, some snacks, and I’m happy!

I’m really close to my mum, so I always make time for a cuppa and a good chat! It’s something I genuinely always look forward to.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

I’d probably just say to try to find joy in the little things and every day routine, not just in the big wins or milestones. Sometimes it’s easy to get so focused on the what’s next that you forget to appreciate the present, which is usually what we once worked so hard for.
