C80 Group embarks on acquisition strategy to deliver growth and consolidation of building services sector

C80 Group (C80; the Group), the Yorkshire-based building consultancy business, is embarking on an acquisition-led growth strategy to increase its portfolio of services and scale its operations, primarily across the North of England.

The Group, which was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Mark Heptonstall, has engaged RG Corporate Finance (RGCF) to support its M&A strategy and to help it build a group of companies offering a range of complementary specialist building services.

C80 completed two acquisitions during the past two years and aims to consolidate the fragmented building services market in the UK.

Originally established as Leeds-based C80 Solutions, the C80 Group was created with the acquisitions of building control and inspections specialist Yorkshire Dales Building Company in 2019 and Midlands based mechanical and electrical design consultancy, Stewart Associates, in 2020.

Now providing a comprehensive range of energy assessment, compliance, consultancy and testing services for the UK residential and commercial sectors, the Group is targeting further growth with the addition of businesses operating in specialist areas such planning, civil & structural engineering, environmental and acoustic consultancy.

Other specialisms the Group is keen to incorporate are mechanical & electrical design and consultancy, building regulations and compliance, architectural services, quantity surveying & project management and installation & maintenance.

Suitable acquisition opportunities will have a minimum EBITDA of £250,000, and strong existing management teams to encourage collaboration and cross-selling between the companies within the Group.

The addition of new specialisms will also support C80 Group’s activity in target markets, including healthcare, education, infrastructure and the Private Rental Sector (PRS).

Mark Heptonstall, Chief Executive of C80 Group, said: “Historically specialist building services have been provided by a range of consultants and small companies, which has created a fragmented sector that will benefit from consolidation.

“The customers we work with have already seen the benefit of our increased range of services following our first two acquisitions, and we are confident that the addition of further businesses into the Group will ensure that we provide comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective solutions.

“Working with the team at RGCF we are keen to identify potential opportunities that will add value and provide growth opportunities to the Group.”

Connor McBride, CF Manager at RGCF, said: “C80 Group is an ambitious business and is very focused on becoming a leading all-round provider of building services. RGCF is looking forward to working with C80 to help create a UK market leader of significant scale within the building compliance and consultancy sectors.”
